Mogadishu, Somalia – The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Daud Aweis Jama, today received the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Somalia, Mr. Lionel Laurens, at his office in Mogadishu.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Ministry of Information and UNDP on ongoing and future development initiatives in Somalia, particularly in the areas of media development, public awareness, peacebuilding, countering terrorism, and the promotion of culture and tourism. The discussion also highlighted the importance of enhancing professional training and capacity building for Somali journalists.
Both sides emphasized the need to further expand programmes that support professional media development, public awareness on good governance, and the role of media in promoting peace, stability, and national development in Somalia.
Minister Daud Aweis Jama expressed appreciation for UNDP’s continued support to Somalia, particularly in strengthening media institutions and building institutional capacity.
The meeting was attended by Mohamed Hadi, Deputy Manager of the Inclusive Politics Portfolio at UNDP; Helene Apollis, Bilan Project Manager for UNDP; and the Directors of the Communication Strategy, Culture, and Federal Member States Relations Departments of the Ministry of Information.
